Ed Executive here with a few thoughts on using name badges in today’s world. We all know how competitive it is out there. Name badges can help set you above your compition if you train your employees to not just put on the name badge, but a company attitude.
Wearing a name badge in the retail, hospitality, food service, or sales industries is all about being approachable. It is important that your workforce understands that wearing a name badge means that they represent the best of your organization. This means that they are ready to serve your customers and do an effective job.
I’ll have more tips on why a name badge can set your orgainization apart in the next few weeks.

Erica Enamel here, there should always be a reason to celebrate. Don’t forget to create an enamel pin or button badge for the reasons that speak to you in the month of February.
February is…An Affair To Remember Month, Canned Food Month, Creative Romance Month, and the 3rd Week International Flirting Week.
Besides the canned food thing, the month of Valentine’s Day is obsessed with sex. Perfect reasons to create your own icons of this sentiment.

Its the start of a new year. A great time to reassess your corporate or orgainizational identity.
One site: http://www.marketingmo.com/2-create-tools-and-processes/how-to-develop-your-corporate-identity/ helps companies solidify their corporate identity, taking it beyond just having a log.
They say, “Corporate identity is an extension of your brand and includes everything with your logo or contact information.”
Think about it. This includes your name badges and your lanyards. Check the website to see what else it includes.

Billy Button here with just a little celebrity and techno talk on Button Badges.
Did you know that:
1. Button badges are sometimes called “flair.”
2. Button badges appeared in the movie “Office Space.” They were worn by Jennifer Aniston’s character on her uniform at the restaurant where she waitressed. (See my earlier button tip #1 posted in this month.) Preview of the file here
To find out about Office Space, a cult classic, see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Office_Space
3. Virtual “flair” or button giving is popular on many social networking sites like Facebook. The virtual button badges can be given to friends to post on their profiles.

This one is probably one of the first uses that you think about when you put on a button.
Button Badges can help you show your individuality. This fashion accessory is an easy way to express who you are, by showing off your humour, your views, opinions, likes, and dislikes. Add them to your clothing, your backpack or purse, or stick then on a lanyard hanging around your car mirror.

Billy Button here. With all this talk about name badges, I was feeling a little overlooked. So I decided to really think about how you all might use me in this new year.
So here is one:
If you have a restaurant or fast food place, think about having your cashiers and wait staff wear different badges to highlight the daily specials.
Button badges can be a great, inexpensive advertising tool!

Here are a few tips on choosing colours for your name badge:
1. Make sure the colours go well together. You don’t want them to clash, or be too similar, or the name badge will be difficult to read.
2. If the background colour is dark, then make sure the lettering is in lighter colours.
3. If your background is intricate or busy, then choose a plain font and a contrasting colour so that the badge will be much easier to read.

Since we seem to be stuck on name badges for the duration…how about a few tips on designing yours?
Look carefully at your logo and consider these items as you are designing a name badge for your orgainization:
1. With an intricate or detailed name badge, keep in mind it will show best on a plain background. This way it won’t appear too cluttered.
2. If you have a detailed logo, spend time considering the badge’s height and width. This will help you ensure that the logo will be clear and crisp.
3. If you have a round or oval-shaped logo, then you might want to consider a round badge instead of a rectangular one. Just keep this in mind as an option.

Hi it’s Pam Plastic, the story on the name badge guy was great. I found another success story on an American name badge site.
This guy Jeff Mangus, is in real estate. He believes that his name badge helped to land the largest listing he had ever had.
He had rushed out of the office, with his name badge on, to take his son to the dentist. The dentist noticed the name badge and eventually gave him a very large listing.
Neat story! Read more about it here:
